This is only the second time that we have offered a copy of this scarce rookie card at auction. The previous time was over 11 years ago! Harimoto survived the Hiroshima atomic bomb blast as a child and became arguably Japan's best all around hitter ever. He is the only Japanese to have more than 500 career home runs and over 3,000 hits. Harimoto wasn't as highly regarded as a rookie as contemporaries Oh, Nagashima, Muriyama and Sugiura. Therefore, unlike these other greats, there are only a few different Harimoto rookie menko, and this is the scarcest. Black & white menko were not nearly as popular as their colorized brethren, so much smaller quantities of these cards were printed.
