Ainsmith was a catcher who spent 15 years in the major leagues (1910-1924). He spent the first nine years of his career with the Washington Senators, where he served as Walter Johnson's personal catcher. By the time of the 1920 Tour, he was a member of the Detroit Tigers. He later played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Brooklyn and the Giants. The 1920 Tour was a short one, consisting of only six games, with the U.S. teams winning all of them. No information about the actual games remains except for the score and winning and losing pitchers, so we have no idea how Ainsworth performed on the Tour. We do know that he was an organizer of the ill fated Philadelphia Bobbies women's baseball team Japan Tour of 1925 and ended up stranding three of the young female players in Japan without funds to return home.
