This lot consists of tickets for six consecutive years of Keio vs. Waseda baseball games from 1935-1940. This is traditionally the fiercest rivalry in Japanese baseball. The contests began in 1903 with a defiant challenge to a game made by Waseda. From 1903-1906, the two schools
played annually. However, rioting during the 1906 game caused future contests between the two schools to be suspended for nearly 20 years. Finally, in 1925, the rivalry resumed and it has continued to the present day. However, tensions have never ceased. In 1933, Keio third
baseman and HOFer Shigeru Mizuhara, who had been arguing calls by the umpire, was pelted with debris by the Waseda fans in the stands. Mizuhara responded by firing an apple back into the crowd, inciting a post game riot which required 200 police to break up!
