This is a scarce, high grade Kawakami Caramel card of Hall of Famer Yoshiyuki Iwamoto of the Taiyo Shochiku Robins. The size, thickness and type of printing on the back are nearly identical to typical Kobai cards of the era. However, Kawakami Caramel cards are much scarcer, as evidenced by their designation of R4 in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition. This means that fewer than 10 copies of each card in the set are known. After playing only briefly in Japan Pro Baseball before World War II, Iwamoto spent his prime years playing in the Japanese Industrial Leagues. He returned to JPB in 1949. In 1950, at age 39, he hit .351 and slugged 39 homers. At age 40, he hit four homers in a single game to go with 18 RBI. Incredibly, he played through age 45 at the highest level.
