Hosei University traveled to the U.S. in the spring of 1931 to play a series of 30 games. The Tour began on April 22nd and concluded on July 8th. On May 11th and 13th, Hosei played at East Lansing against Michigan State University, winning both games by scores of 5-3 and 4-1 respectively. This photo dates from that two game series. The reverse contains a stamp from the Rex Camera Shop of East Lansing. Most likely, the photo was taken at the first game and signed at the second. Hisanori Karita (1911-2001) had a stellar baseball career. A slick fielding middle infielder, he first came to prominence at Hosei U. in the early 1930s. In 1934 he was chosen to play on the All Japan team that faced the touring U.S. Major League All Stars including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Beginning with the advent of Japan Pro Baseball in 1936, Karita turned pro, playing until 1948. Karita has signed the photo in both Japanese and English. Shigeru Fujii was a right fielder for the Hosei U. team.

Size: 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Condition: The photo is Ex/Mt with excess paper on the back from being pasted in a book. Karita Japanese autograph--8 of 10. Karita English autograph--10 of 10. Fujii autograph--7 of 10.
