Only one other example of this extremely rare Sadaharu Oh rookie card has ever been seen. This one grades considerably higher than the previous example, which was offered by Prestige Collectibles
several years ago. This unique card, unlike other cards from the JCM 33e set, was printed with no player statistics on the back, and with no player name on the front! Due to the rarity of this card compared to others in the set,
lack of name and statistics, and the very dark player image, we believe that this Oh rookie card was most likely removed from production early in the print run, as its quality is definitely not up
to par with the other cards in the set.
Interestingly, the bat that Oh is holding in the photo on this card has the number 35 on the knob, which means the bat must have belonged to Giants catcher Katsumi Kato, who wore that number in 1959.
Despite the fact that he's holding Kato's bat, Oh's image on the card is unmistakable!
