The 1964 Fujiya Gum set was imported to the US in small quantities by American Servicemen in the 1960s. However, they did not import the store display sheets from which the cards were sold in Japan. This is one of only two Fujiya Gum Card cardboard displays known in the hobby. The cards are described as prize winner or "Atari" cards on the display, so they must have been prizes connected to the purchase of Fujiya Gum, rather than cards included directly with the product. The display contains places for nine cards, which is surprising, since this is a 10 card set. Nevertheless, the original nine cards are still attached to the cardboard display by means of diecut photo corners. Therefore, there is absolutely no damage or glue on the cards from their attachment to the display. The cards are high grade.
The set consists entirely of Hall of Famers/Golden Players. Players include Sadaharu Oh (2 diff.), Shigeo Nagashima (2 diff.), Masaichi Kaneda, Minoru Murayama, Katsuya Nomura, Kazuhisa Inao and Shinichi Eto. The missing card from the set is the third Nagashima card. All cards are blank backed. This piece has great eye appeal!
Size: Each card is 4 3/4" x 3 1/8". The display is 15 1/8" x 12 1/4".
Condition: All cards are Nm or Nm/Mt except that one Oh card has minor damage along the top border.
