In our Auction 66 last year, Lots 38 and 39 contained San Francisco Seals player cards from a previously unknown set. This lot consists of the Seals team card from the same set. The same Auction 66 also featured an uncatalogued Seals team bromide (Lot 37). The card presented here has a Seals team photo that must have been within a few minutes of the one used for the team card in Auction 66, since every player is in the same position in both photos.

Based on the faces in the crowd, the photo appears to have been taken at a Japanese stadium during the Seals 1949 Japan Tour. The entire tour party of 22 players plus manager Lefty O'Doul can be seen in the photo.

The Seals won all of the games they played against Japanese opposition on the Tour. Nevertheless, the Tour was hailed in Japan as an important event for both the sport of baseball, and for improving relations between the two countries.
