In 1949, the San Francisco Seals, led by manager Lefty O’Doul, participated in one of the first postwar cultural exchanges between Japan and the United States.  This Japan tour is regarded by many in Japan to be the most highly anticipated of all the visits by American baseball teams.

This postcard sized team card differs from the previous lot in that, while there is no identification legend for the 23 players pictured, each player’s image is much larger, and the crowd behind the players indicates that the photo definitely was taken in Japan during the tour.

We have never seen this baseball card in our nearly 35 years of buying, selling and auctioning Japanese baseball cards and memorabilia until now.  The card is certainly a wonderful keepsake from this important event.

Blank back card
