Here is a gorgeous, full color card
featuring the Gentleman of Baseball, Kaoru Betto, swinging lustily during a
Japan Pro Baseball game. Betto, a right
handed hitting, bespectacled outfielder is best known to many Americans as the
player whose visage is seen on the iconic shirt worn by Jeff Bridges in the
movie, The
Big Lebowski, as well as in the movies Cold Feet and The Fisher King.
Betto wasn’t just some guy on a
t-shirt! He was named to his league’s
Best Nine teams in each of his first six seasons. 1949 was Betto’s second year
in pro baseball. That season, he batted
.322 with an impressive 39 homers and 126 RBIs.
In 1950, he was Central League MVP, batting .325 with 43 homers.
