In our 34 years of offering Japanese baseball cards to the public, this is only the third time that we have offered a copy of this scarce rookie card at auction. Isao Harimoto survived the Hiroshima atomic bomb blast as a child and became arguably Japan's best all around hitter ever. He is the only Japanese to have more than 500 career home runs and over 3,000 hits. Harimoto wasn't as highly regarded as a rookie as contemporaries Oh, Nagashima, Murayama and Sugiura. Therefore, unlike these other greats, Harimoto has only a few different rookie menko.  This one is the scarcest. Black & white menko were not nearly as popular as their colorized brethren, so much smaller quantities of these cards were printed.
