Undogaho Magazine was published by Toyokuni Sha. Each of the 15 cards in this tan bordered premium set can be found with either a green tint or brown tint image. Backs are generally blank, but there is also a scoreboard back version. This card of Hisanori Karita is the green tint, blank back version. In our 34 years of buying, selling and auctioning Japanese baseball cards, this is the first example of this card that we have ever offered.

Hisanori Karita's 20 year plus playing career spanned both the Golden Age of Big Six University baseball, and Japan Pro Baseball's early postwar era. As a student at Hosei U., Karita faced Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, et al during the 1934 Major League All Stars Tour of Japan. In 1936, the slick fielding second baseman participated in the first season of Japan Pro Baseball, forming the Million Dollar Double Play Combination with shortstop Shinichi Nakamura. In Spring 1938, Karita was named league MVP. He ultimately played for six Japan Pro Baseball franchises, often as player/manager before hanging up his cleats after the 1951 season.

Here we have a card of Hisanori Karita at the beginning of his Tokyo Big Six University League career. This rookie card depicts the slick fielding infielder doing what he did best.
