The JCM 168 set has been assigned the scarcity factor R5 in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 2.1 by Gary Engel, meaning that five or fewer copies of each card in the set are known.

Kenzo Yamashiro first came to the attention of the Japanese public as a member of the Koryo High School team which won the 1927 Summer High School Baseball Championship at Koshien. A slugging first baseman, Yamashiro's high school success led to his matriculation at Rikkio U. of the Tokyo Big Six University League, where he played from 1928-1933. In 1932, he accompanied other members of the Rikkio team on a four month tour of the U.S., where he played against numerous college and other amateur teams. After graduation, he was selected to be a member of the 1934 All Japan team which faced the U.S. All Stars featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. However, he did not participate in any of the games. Beginning in 1934, Yamashiro also played semi-pro ball for the powerful Columbia Records of Kawasaki club.
