Only two vintage Japanese cards have ever been printed that contain a photo of Sadaharu Oh and Hank Aaron together. Offered here is the JMC 2 NST / Mr. Baseball card #89 which depicts both superstar sluggers.. On November 2, 1974, in front of 50,000 fans at Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo and millions more on Japanese TV, Hank Aaron and Sadaharu Oh engaged in a home run hitting contest prior to one of the games of the New York Mets Tour of Japan against the All Japan team. In a tense, exciting contest, Aaron defeated Oh by a score of 10 homers to 9. On the eve of this historic contest, Oh and Aaron posed for photos. The image on this card is the same as one of the photos taken during that photo session.

At the time of the contest, Oh was then 34 years old and had slugged 634 homers, while Aaron at age 40 had hit 733. On September 3, 1977, Oh would smack his 756th career round tripper to surpass Aaron and become the world home run champion.

If one were to look at only the front of this card, he/she would be puzzled as to why the card received a grade of SGC 1. The card appears Nm/Mt! The reason for the downgrade can be seen on the back. The card was once attached to the NST card album which was specially made for the JMC 2 set. Thus, we now find a thin layer of glue across the top. Also, as a result of this insertion into the album, an imprint of part of the album page now appears across the top of the card back along with the bit of extra paper and glue. Nevertheless, it's still a great looking card.

Size: 2 7/8" x 1 15/16"

Condition: SGC 1 (Poor). The card would be Nm/Mt if it hadn't been attached at one time to an album.
