This card was undoubtedly originally a first prize winner card on a display sheet. The God of Batting is seen here in a close-up portrait while at bat. The Giants team name, Kawakami's surname and position are printed on the card in Japanese. Interestingly, a phrase roughly translated as, "night game latest form" also appears on the card.

The first Japan Pro Baseball night game was played on August 17, 1948 between the Yomiuri Giants and Chunichi Dragons. Since Kawakami is wearing his 1950 Giants uniform on this card, this image is definitely not from the first night game. This caption could refer to a new batting stance used by Kawakami, but we feel that the inscription simply means that night baseball in general is the latest craze in Japanese baseball. Blank backed.

Another example of this card appeared in our Auction #60 in March 2021. The example offered here is in stronger condition.
