Korean native Hideo Fujimoto, a 5' 7" 145 lb right hander, is certainly one of the most overlooked of the great Japanese baseball players. Fujimoto is the all time Japan Pro Baseball leader in lifetime ERA (1.90), single season ERA (0.73) and all time winning percentage (.697). He is credited with introducing the slider to Japanese baseball. He pitched the first perfect game in Japan Pro Baseball history. He is a Sawamura (Japan Cy Young) Award winner. In 1943 alone, he pitched in 432 2/3 innings, threw 19 complete game shutouts and went 100 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run! He was also a decent hitter, batting .245 in nearly 1,500 plate appearances, occasionally playing second base, third base, and outfield.

This very large bromide shows Fujimoto as a member of the East team during the 1949 East-West All Star Series. Fujimoto was the starting pitcher in two of the three games of this series, He was also the winning pitcher of both games, outdueling HOF hurlers Juzo Sanada and Jiro Noguchi.

In our 33 years of buying, selling and auctioning Japanese baseball cards, we have seen this card only two times. It was most likely a second prize winner card on a display sheet. Blank backed card.

Size: 5 5/8" x 8 5/8"

Condition: Good to Vg, with extra paper and glue on the blank back from having originally been issued attached to a display sheet. All examples of this card will have this extra paper and glue.
