In honor of the 1931 MLB All Star Tour of Japan, the Yuasa Company issued a set of bromide baseball cards, currently classified as JBR 105 in the Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide, Vintage Edition 2.1. Among the 19 different cards currently known to exist, eight contain white facsimile signatures, while the other 11 do not contain the signatures.

Additionally, we know that the G.T. Sun Company also produced their own version of the JBR 105 cards. At least several of the G.T. Sun produced JBR 105 cards differ from the Yuasa produced versions in two important respects.  While the Yuasa versions contain the white facsimile autographs for eight cards, none of the G.T. Sun versions have facsimile autographs. Also, G.T. Sun produced cards have a number in the lower left corner, while the Yuasa cards do not.

Both the Yuasa and G.T. Sun versions were occasionally autographed by Tour participants in fountain pen. The card offered here is a JBR 105 G.T. Sun version autographed by Lefty Grove. Since it is the G.T. Sun version, there is no facsimile autograph on the card, and the number six, etched into the photo negative, appears in the lower left corner. The card contains a bold, blue fountain pen signature of Lefty Grove.

Grove appeared in eight of the 17 Tour games. In the 39 innings he pitched during the Tour, Grove did not allow a run! He went 6-0 with a 0.00 ERA, striking out a whopping 55 batters.

Size: 3 3/8" x 5 3/8"

Condition: The baseball card is Nm. The autograph grades 7 out of 10.
