While we are not positive, we believe that this photo was taken on November 6, 1931. Someone inscribed on the back, "Luncheon of welcome in Tokyo by Yomiuri Shimbun". The owner of the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper and Japan Baseball Hall of Fame member, Matsutaro Shoriki, is seated at the far table to the right of U.S. tour organizer, Herb Hunter. Lefty Grove and Mickey Cochrane are seen in back on the right side of the near table. They are seated across from George Kelly. The remaining players and dignitaries remain unidentified. "Property of the Sporting News" is stamped on the back, along with a modern Sporting News certificate of authenticity sticker attributing the photo to the John Rogers Archive.
