Over the years, we have seen four or five different cards from this set, but this is the only example we are aware of that pictures Kaoru Betto. Cards from this set could be redeemed for premiums, thus accounting for their scarcity. The Betto card was worth five points toward some cool prizes, including bats, gloves and gyroscopes! The card back lists the available prizes.

The Glico Co. was established in 1922. Their first and most famous product was Glico Caramel. The company still exists today, and over the years has expanded to include a large assortment of food products. After producing a few cards in 1930, Glico halted card production, only to resume as one of the many candy companies that took part in the redeemable baseball card craze of 1952 and 1953. That mania ended after only two years, marking the end of Glico as a card producer.

After hitting over .300 in his first four professional seasons, including seasons with 39 and 43 homers, Kaoru Betto slumped to a .279 average with 18 homers in 1952.
