Tokichiro Ishii was the clean-up hitter for the Waseda University Teams of the late 1940s that captured four consecutive Tokyo Big Six University League championships. After college, he decided against playing pro baseball. Instead, he led the Daishowa Seishi squad that won the 1953 Intercity Baseball Tournament. From 1964 to 1973, he was the manager at his Alma Mater.
As there were not too many cards of university players manufactured during the late 40s, this card, unsurprisingly, is his only known baseball card. Therefore, it is an important element of any type collection of HOFer baseball cards.
