While we have often seen the Franklin Mint's Sadaharu Oh 756 HR commemorative coin, this 800 HR coin is found only rarely. Apparently, it did not sell nearly as well as the earlier coin. The coin is .925 silver and weighs 18 grams. The obverse features an insert portrait of Sadaharu Oh, while the main image is of Oh swinging. The reverse states that Oh hit number 800 at Korakuen Stadium on 8/30/78, and includes a very accurate facsimile autograph. J

On August 30, 1978, a crowd of 55,000 spectators packed Korakuen Stadium, hoping that Sadaharu Oh would smack his 800th career home run that day. Oh rewarded the fans in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Taiyo Whales reliever, Hiroshi Okawa, Oh drove the first pitch over the fence in right field. The ball ended up in the shoe of a Giants fan who had removed his footwear while watching the game!

Size: 1 1/2" in diameter

Condition: Proof .925 Silver Coin in its original plastic case
