In the pantheon of Japanese baseball all time greats, Katsuya Nomura seems to fly under the radar at times. A catcher, Nomura belted 657 home runs during 27 year career (1954-1980). He was perhaps the Pacific League's greatest pre-Ichiro player and certainly the best catcher in the history of Japanese baseball. He was selected to the Best 9 for 13 consecutive seasons. He won the triple crown in 1965. After retirement, he went on to become a very successful manager.
Nomura is seen here on his JCM 14f card contemplating his next turn at bat. Only five examples of this card appear on the PSA population report. This card is one of only two examples graded PSA 9 with none graded higher. It's a stunning card in nearly pristine condition of one of Japan's all time greats.
