The great Russian 300 game winner is seen here in his 1948 Stars uniform, but the team name printed on the card is Daiei, which was the Stars' team name beginning in 1949. Therefore, we would assume that this is an early 1949 issue. This is only the second time that we have encountered this card.

Starffin's incredible life story and pitching successes are well known to Japan baseball card collectors. However, not much is mentioned about his batting prowess. In 1,879 career at bats, Starffin managed a .237 lifetime batting average. Occasionally, later in his career, when not pitching, Starffin played first base, actually logging 27 games at the position in 1951. 1949 was Starffin's last great year on the mound, as he went 27-17, 2.64 for the third place Stars.

Blank backed card.

Size: 2 3/8" x 2 3/8"
