JBR 14 is one of several sets produced to honor Shigeo Nagashima's rookie season. Nagashima's entry into Japan Pro Baseball after a stellar career at Rikkio U. was possibly the most highly anticipated professional debut of all time. He certainly didn't disappoint the fans, as he batted .305 with 29 homers and 92 RBI in 130 games, leading the Yomiuri Giants to the Central League title. For his efforts, he was named Central League Rookie of the Year. Joining "Mr. Giants" on this card is his Hawaiian teammate, Andy Miyamoto. A native of Maui, Miyamoto, an outfielder, played with the Giants for eight seasons (1955-1962), before moving to the Kokutetsu Swallows (1963-1964). He was a three time all star and was named MVP of the 1961 Japan Series. Interestingly, he finished his career in 1965 with the Hawaii Islanders of the Pacific Coast League. This card captures the heavy hitting duo with bats on shoulder, ready to do damage.

Size: 2 11/16" x 4 3/16"

Condition: The card would have been Nm/Mt, direct from the taba, except that the taba string has made an impression at the top border.
