Given the uniform that Victor Starffin is wearing here, we don't know whether the photo used for this giant bromide baseball card was taken in 1949 or 1950, as the Daiei Stars used the same uniforms during both seasons. In 1949, Starffin had his last superstar season, going 27-17 with a 2.61 ERA while pitching in 376 innings, which is certainly quite a load compared to how today's pitchers are handled. Alas, during his final six seasons in Japan Pro Baseball (1950-1955) Starffin was but a mere mortal, going 51-74, 3.42, possibly as a result of having pitched as many as 458 innings in a season earlier in his career. We have not seen this card before. It was originally a first prize premium on an unknown display sheet. Starffin's team name, surname and position are printed in Japanese in the lower right portion of the image. Starffin is captured here with an intense look on his face as he prepares to launch a baseball toward home plate. Blank backed.
