Hisanori Karita's 20 year plus playing career spanned both the Golden Age of Big Six University baseball, and Japan Pro Baseball's early postwar era. As a student at Hosei U., Karita faced Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, et al during the 1934 Major League All Stars Tour of Japan. In 1936, the slick fielding second baseman participated in the first season of Japan Pro Baseball, forming the Million Dollar Double Play Combination with shortstop Shinichi Nakamura. In Spring 1938, Karita was named league MVP. He ultimately played for six Japan Pro Baseball franchises, often as player/manager before hanging up his cleats after the 1951 season. Like all cards in the interestingly designed JBR 152 set, this one contains a crisp player image surrounded by unusual artwork, typical of several Japanese baseball card issues.
