The 1931 U.S. Major League All Star Tour of Japan was the first Tour in which an entire team consisting of top American major leaguers ventured to the Land of the Rising Sun. The U.S. cast of players included Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochrane, George Kelly, Frankie Frisch, Rabbit Maranville, Al Simmons, and Japan HOFer, Lefty O’Doul. The normal program from the Tour is scarce. This Jingu Stadium version is super rare! Only two copies are known to exist in the hobby. The normally seen program was an insert in the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper. While the cover design is quite similar for both program types, the cover texts are different, as this program’s cover text expressly states that this program was produced for the games played on November 7, 8, 14 and 15 at Jingu Stadium. Moreover, the inside pages and back page are completely different than those found in the normally seen program. While, like the other program, most interior pages consist of large images and Japanese text regarding specific American players, different photos and text are used here. This is your opportunity to own one of only two examples of this keepsake, which chronicles a momentous event. Interestingly, this program appears to have been sent to a Mr. F.M. Child in New York by a Mr. A.R. Child in Tokyo, as the handwritten text on the cover attests. Mr. A.R. Child also made several program notes on inside pages.

Size: 7 ½” x 10 3/8”. 20 pages.

Condition: Good with a vertical crease from the program’s having been folded at one time. Also, several handwritten ink comments on the cover and some inside pages.
