Known as the "God of Batting", Kawakami was the greatest Japanese hitter of his generation. His best season came in 1951 after having had a meeting with Joe DiMaggio about batting during the 1950 post season.  He followed the Yankee Clipper's advice, and it helped him to hit .377 in 1951 while striking out only six times! In 1956, Kawakami hit .364 during the Brooklyn Dodgers Japan Tour. He won three consecutive MVP awards and five batting championships. After retiring as an active player, he became Japan's all time greatest manager, piloting the Yomiuri Giants to nine consecutive Japan Series titles!

Here, we offer one of the most cherished Kawakami cards, produced during his final season as an active player. It is a large size premium adorned with his facsimile autograph. What makes this lot truly unique is that the card comes nestled in its original Fujiya Caramel display easel. What a fantastic display this grouping would make in someone's hobby room! This is the first Kawakami card with display that we have ever had the privilege to offer. Blank backed.

Size: Card--5" x 7 1/2". Easel--5 7/8" x 9"

Condition: The card has sharp corners and borders except for a minor chip at the lower right border that must have occurred during the manufacturing process. Also, some foxing is apparent on both the front and the blank back. Nearly all foxing on the front occurs at upper left and does not affect the image. The display easel is Vg/Ex to Ex.
