Japanese game worn uniforms, unlike American major league uniforms, are extremely difficult to find, especially those from the last century. All player equipment was
considered to be the property on the team, and it was not appropriate for anyone to remove the equipment from the clubhouse. Here is a rare opportunity to own a
complete, autographed, game worn uniform of a Japan Baseball Hall of Fame member who played during the mid 20th century.
Shigeru Sugishita, a member of the Chunichi Dragons, won 20 or more games six times in his 11 year career, winning 30 or more twice! He won three Sawamura (Japan
Cy Young) Awards, and in 1954 won the Central League MVP, Sawamura Award, and Japan Series MVP. By 1993, after a managerial career of several seasons,
Sugishita was a coach with the Seibu Lions. This uniform dates from his tenure with the Lions. The uniform offered here was won by a well known veteran Japanese
collector in a charity auction sponsored by Meiji University in the 1990s, and has remained in his collection until now. Sugishita had contributed the uniform for auction,
as he is a graduate of Meiji U. This ensemble includes the uniform jersey, pants, cap and hose, along with the page from the original auction catalog (Japanese text)
which describes the lot, the paper (used as a paddle) that the winner used to make his bids, and the Meiji U. shopping bag in which the uniform was presented to him.
The cap and jersey are autographed by Sugishita boldly in blue marker. The uniform was produced by Descente and contains the appropriate labels and tags. The cap
was produced by Mizuno.
Size: Unknown. However, Sugishita was 6', 160 lbs. in his playing days.
Condition: Uniform Nm. Autographs--9 out of 10.
