Tatsunori Hara was the Yomiuri Giants' first round draft pick in 1981. He was assigned the daunting task of replacing Sadaharu Oh, who had retired after the 1980 season. If that wasn't enough, he was promoted as the new face of
Japanese baseball. Hara was named Central League Rookie of the Year, batting .268 with 22 homers. He also received marriage proposals on a daily basis. While he enjoyed a successful career, leading the Giants to several pennants
during his 15 years with the team, he was not nearly the player that Oh was. Who could be? For his career, he batted .279 with 382 home runs. After his retirement as an active player, he was a very successful manager. He led the
Giants to six Central League Championships and three Japan Series titles. He also managed Team Japan when they won the 2009 World Baseball Classic. In 2018, he was named to the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame. The baseball is
signed by Hara in black marker on one panel along with the expression "Dreaming". The date, 4/30/05 is inscribed on another panel.
