When the San Francisco Seals met the All Japan team, the Seals faced a squad which included 11 future Japan Hall of Fame members. Such players as Victor Starffin Michio Nishizawa, Hiroshi Oshita, Kazuto Truruoka, Noboru Aota and Tetsuharu Kawakami are easily seen in this photo, along with Lefty O'Doul and the entire Seals team. We are not certain at which venue this image was taken, but a good guess would be the game at Jingu Stadium on 10/17/49. This was the first game in which the Seals faced the All Japan team. An overflow crowd of 65,000 fans were in attendance, and Cliff Melton won a pitcher's duel, in which Victor Starffin started for All Japan and left without allowing a run, but was let down by HOFer Hiroshi Nakao in the late innings. This is a photo produced shortly after the event from the original negative. Blank backed.
