This sumo menko prize sheet contains 36 different cards. As such, three complete sets can be made. Each set contains multiple cards of several yokozuna (grand champions) including Kashiwado, Wakanohana, Tochinoumi, and possibly the greatest sumo rikishi of all time, Taiho. Tochinishiki retired in 1960, and other yokozuna who retired in 1958 and 1959 are not part of this set. Thus, we have estimated the year of issue for this set as 1960. The set was manufactured by Maruya, makers of the JCM 57a, b and c green checkerboard back sets of the early 1960s. The backs of this set have a similar design to the JCM 57 cards, except with a sumo oriented motif.
Size: Each card is 1 13/16". The display sheet is 24 1/2" x 34 1/2".
Condition: Nearly all cards would be Nm/Mt or Mint if cut from the sheets. The display paper contains a number of chips along the manufacturer's folds.
