This is Billy Martin's true rookie card. Martin's American rookie card is generally considered to be his 1952 Topps card. But this card, most likely produced to commemorate the 1951 U.S. Tour of Japan, is the earliest card in which he is seen wearing a New York Yankees uniform! This is only the second example that we have ever encountered in our 30 years of buying, selling and collecting Japanese baseball cards. The card was most likely a second prize winner on a display sheet, as it contains minor paper loss on its blank back, consistent with display sheet mounting. The two lines of white Japanese text on the card read, "New York Yankees, Billy Martin infielder". Whether you are a Yankee fan or not, this card is truly special.
Size: 4 3/8" x 5 1/8"
Condition: Would be Ex/Mt to Nm except that there is a 1" tear at the left border. All examples of this card were issued attached to display sheets, so the minor paper loss on the back, due to previous display sheet attachment, does not affect the grade.
