This lot features two of the players on the All Japan team who faced the U.S. Major League All Stars led by Lou Gehrig and Lefty Grove. The cards, produced by an unknown manufacturer, are from the same set as the Frankie Frisch card
of the previous lot. At this time, 14 cards from the set are known, including eight depicting U.S. Tour members and six picturing members of the Japan All Stars. Only two copies of each of these two cards are known to exist. Interestingly,
both players also played for the All Japan team that faced Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, et. al. in 1934. In 1934, Inokawa, a catcher/first baseman, was the leading hitter for the Japanese team, batting .348 and hitting a home run. He later
enjoyed a 10 year career in Japan Pro Baseball. Karita, a shortstop, one of the greatest fielders in the history of Japan Pro Baseball, formed half of the "Million Dollar Double Play Combination" in the late 1930s. During his 16 year Japan
Pro Baseball career, he was a player/manager during eight seasons. He batted .276 during the 1934 Tour. Unfortunately, statistics for the Japanese players are not available for the 1931 Tour. Blank backed.
Size: The Inokawa card is 1 3/8" x 2 5/8". The Karita card is smaller due to trimming along all four borders.
Condition: Inokawa--Vg to Vg/Ex. Karita--Poor because of trimming.
