This gorgeous, large size, color premium card features Russian emigre and 300 game winner Victor Starffin (right) shaking hands with San Francisco Seals ace, Cliff Melton during the Seals' 1949 Tour of Japan. Melton, at age 37, was nearing the end of a solid career. He was a 20 game winner as a rookie for the New York Giants in 1937, and had gone on to win 86 major league games before moving West where he won 17 and 16 games for the Seals in 1947 and 1948. Starffin had just finished an outstanding 1949 season in which he won 27 games while pitching 376 innings. The Japanese inscription printed across the bottom reads, "Seals Melton pitcher, Stars team Starffin pitcher". The card was most likely a second prize winner card originally issued on a prize sheet. Blank backed.

Size: 7 1/2" x 6"

Condition: Corners and gloss are Ex. There is a small paper abrasion to the left of Melton's ear, and another near Starffin's elbow. There are glue marks on the blank back from the card's having orignally been attached to a prize sheet by the manufacturer. Every example of this card has such marks.
