During the 1950s and early 1960s, numerous sets of similar looking Tachibana Seika cards were produced by Hinomaru Caramel and inserted into packs of caramel confections. All sets featured the image of a quarter baseball containing a point value. When the collector had found four different cards comprising all four corners of a baseball with a specific point value, he could redeem the cards for a prize. In 1959 the card design included a playing card image on the front. Thus, we know that this advertising poster is promoting 1959 sets. Three different sets were produced in 1959, but they were differentiated by the text on the back, which is unseen in this ad. Therefore, we do not if the poster is promoting any specific 1959 set. Interestingly, the card images printed on the poster, while of the style of the 1959 card sets, have player images that do not match any actual cards produced in any Hinomaru Caramel set! However, we do recognize players depicted on cards in the ad including Shigeo Nagashima (HOF), Katsuya Nomura (HOF), Tadashi Sugiura (HOF), Futoshi Nakanishi (HOF) and Yoshio Yoshida (HOF). This is the only example of a Hinomaru baseball card advertising sheet known in the hobby. Blank backed.
