The 1949 San Francisco Seals Goodwill Tour of Japan was one of the first U.S.-Japan joint peacetime activities following World War II. As such, it was greeted with considerable enthusiasm in Japan. Although Japanese baseball sets in general have rarely included cards of U.S. Major League players, the popularity of this tour resulted in numerous sets containing Seals players. This lot includes cards from six of these sets. Cards represented in this lot include (top row, left to right) JCM 78 Walt Judnich (previously uncatalogued), JCM 51 Arky Vaughn, JCM 45 Melton/Brewer and JCM 45 Nagy/Rocco, (second row, left to right) Jackie Tobin (uncatalogued), Roy Nicely (uncatalogued), Brooks Holder (uncatalogued) and Con Dempsey (uncatalogued), (third row left to right) Cary Rickard (uncatalogued), Roy Jarvis (uncatalogued), JCM 77 Cliff Melton, JCM 77 Con Dempsey (bottom row, left to right) All in this row are JCM 77 cards.
